Large Landscape Statues – Providing the Means
Muvezi is proud to feature an impressive selection of large landscape statues. We are prouder, yet, of how we help talented Shona artists realize their full potential in the creation of captivating landscape art.
An endangered tribal art form, Shona stone sculpture was severely impacted by a collapsed economy and exorbitant fuel costs in Zimbabwe. Many artists had abandoned their calling, and the ones who persevered worked with lower quality stone that could be transported by hand.
Muvezi was founded in an attempt to revive this celebrated art form. Now on a regular basis, Muvezi visits distant mines and delivers large pieces of the highest quality stone to distinguished carvers. This consistent support has provided stability and renewed creative expression. In addition to impressive but small indoor carvings, Shona artists are now producing mesmerizing garden statues.
Big Man Statue – A Basal Treasure
Inspired by folklore and spiritual beliefs, Shona stone sculptures are most often representations of the human form. Large landscape art pieces range from unique abstract faces to life-like big man statues. Elaborate animal sculptures of elephant, bird and other animal forms, along with depictive angel statues, are also available.
Just imagine the magnificence of displaying a big man statue in your foyer or garden. He will become your favourite treasure!
Landscape Art Enhanced by Innate Qualities in Stone
Zimbabwe is home to one of the richest mineral deposits in the world. The stone used in Muvezi Shona stone sculptures, including verdite, cobalt, serpentine, and leopard rock, endows striking contrasts, veining and polished elegance to large landscape art pieces.
